Please sign on to the Campaign for a Nuclear Weapons Free World!
The world is at a pivotal juncture in the long struggle to eliminate nuclear weapons dangers:
- On the one hand, the spread of nuclear weapons has dramatically worsened in the last decade. Several nations have pursued nuclear weapons capabilities--and some have actually tested new nuclear weapons. The non-proliferation system that was established in 1970 with the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty (NPT) is under stress, and there is a very real danger that the NPT will unravel.
- On the other hand, new and influential support for a nuclear weapons free world is coming forward. In January, 2007 and again in January, 2008, a bipartisan group of opinion shapers -- including former Secretary of Defense Bill Perry, former Secretaries of State George Shultz and Henry Kissinger, and former Senator Sam Nunn -- coauthored a Wall Street Journal articles in which they urged U.S. leadership to adopt a series of practical, achievable steps that lead to a nuclear weapons free world.
The Campaign for a Nuclear Weapons Free World was launched to harness the energy of the majority of Americans who support action toward the total elimination of nuclear weapons. To date, seventy-three organizations have endorsed the campaign, representing a wide variety of grassroots groups, churches, and advocacy organizations.
We recognize that this is an ambitious effort, but we hope you will agree that now is the time to step up our collective efforts in order to make a positive, measurable difference.
We invite you to join the Campaign for a Nuclear Weapons Free World (CNWFW) by signing on to the Campaign Organizing Statement.
If you would like assistance from the Campaign to achieve the endorsement of your organization, please contact Martin Fleck, CNWFW Coordinator. Individuals are also encouraged to sign on.
Thank you for sharing the vision of a world free of nuclear weapons.
